“O Nature, I’d rather be thy child
And pupil, in the forest wild,
Than be the king of men elsewhere.
To have one moment of thy dawn,
Than share the city’s year forlorn.” – Henry David Thoreau
Surely Henry David Thoreau would have called Shelburne Farms a natural paradise. With rolling green vistas, bountiful produce, a menagerie of animals, and a water-side view of Lake Champlain, we were overwhelmed by the beauty at Shelburne Farms. Shelburne Farms is a non-profit steward of the National Historic Landmark they rest upon. The farm strives to help teach visiting ‘pupils of the wild’ how to create an environmentally, economically and culturally sustainable society in the modern world.
If city living starts to wear on you, we highly recommend a trip up to this oasis in Shelburne, VT.
