Job Description – Stone Artisan

American Stonecraft is one of New England’s favorite places to buy gifts and home decor. Our story is one part Farming, one part Geology, and one part History. With over six years in business, we’ve created a unique recipe that is fun to share. We are looking for a talented stone artisan to join our Lowell workshop.

We’re a small studio (more than 9, less than 12 people overall) with big revenue and a worldwide clientele. If you genuinely appreciate our handcrafted products and love to work with your hands, we want you to join our team! The pay is great but you can also feel good about our mission.

The Artisan will work with his or her hands to cut and polish stones into our finished products: Slabs, Coasters, Bowls, and more. The work is repetitive but the geology of the stones we work with adds a colorful variety to each workday. You should care about small details and like working with your hands and mind.

Daily Tasks Include:

  • Cut open and sort raw stones
  • Polish and hone sawn stones into Coasters, Cook Slabs, and Food Slabs
  • Preventative and ad-hoc maintenance
  • Sculpt and polish Bowlders
  • Finish products by applying resin, feet, and buffing
  • Organize and label stock and in-process work
  • Clean workstation and workshop at the end of shift, keeping tools in designated areas
  • Follow opening and closing procedures
  • Pack boxes and prepare shipping
  • Enter data in spreadsheets and other software programs
  • Assist in other shop functions when needed
  • Positive attitude
  • Motivated by high quality craftsmanship

Requirements:

  • Available to travel to Lowell M-F 5 days per week
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment or skilled trade
  • English fluency and good verbal skills
  • Edit spreadsheets and use web applications on a notebook computer
  • Lift up to 40 lbs
  • Ability to work on your feet 8 hours per day

Benefits:

  • 2 Weeks paid time off
  • Profit Sharing Plan

Next Step to Apply:

  • Write why you would be a good fit to join our team
  • Include a list of your work experience including dates
  • Email this letter and resume to [email protected]
