Fieldstones in natural habitat
The Northeastern US is rocky, and fieldstones rise each springtime after the winter’s freeze-thaw cycle. Farmers then stacked these fieldstones in walls.

The science behind it is called granular convection. We see this more commonly in a bag of cereal containing pieces of varying sizes. When it gets shaken, the big pieces go to the top and the small pieces settle at the bottom.

The ground freezes and thaws over 60 times each spring, and this shaking of the earth forces a new crop of boulders to the surface.

Thanks to this science, I harvest fieldstones from working farms, and leave historic walls untouched!

Historic walls?
Yes. By the end of the 1800s, New York and New England had more miles of stonewalls than the miles from the earth to the moon, over 200,000 miles of them.
Hidden in the soil of ordinary farmers’ fields, now lie magical metamorphic rocks, like granite and marble, naturally melted by heat and pressure, and requiring relatively less energy to source than alternatives. And despite a seeming abundance of stone, some are quite special and rare, making them worthy of a special gift or to be collected. A journey to your hands that took millions of years to bear fruit.

Plate tectonics create river valleys and mountains. Rivers are like upside down mountains, channeling water from above.

Tabletop Art
Regardless where your stone is from, each finished piece is a work of art and a product of nature. Live edges, organic shapes; as the glaciers left them. I’ve spent 12 years mastering techniques, and designing custom tools, to saw, polish, and sculpt these weird, irregular stones. Sometimes I can even reconstruct the whole stone back into a set that shows off the original form. I permanently archive the record of each piece, to give provenance to your collection.
Expore My ShopIt’s different than a quarry
A quarry extracts large blocks of stone from the earth.
My idea however, is to use sustainably gathered boulders right at the surface, picked up by hand at farms, or with stones u-pick.

Own a farm?
I can come visit, or u-pick stones from softball size to watermelon size into a nylon bag on a pallet. Tie off the top, and I will line up LTL shipping. Costs are surprisingly reasonable, comparable to shipping any other pallet.
